There are certain movies that influence our decision on what wanted to do for a living. There of movies that earn that reputation and influenced my decision to go law school and pursue my dream. The Paper Chase earn that distinction of showing how to deal law professors and their line of questioning. I believe seeing this movie is again and see what goes in law school class. The one of the movies is where John Houseman tells Timothy Bottoms there is serious doubt about him becoming a lawyer and hands him a dime. He tells Timothy Bottoms. John Houseman as Professor Kingsfield gives a speech about doing brain surgery and having skull full of mush and leaving thinking like a lawyer.
The second film is the Tom Cruise movie the Firm. I was intrigued by the character was uncovering corruption from the firm he was working for and the firm had threaten to blackmail him. Mitch McDermott, the character Tom Cruise played had graduated from Harvard Law School. The firm was working for the Mafia. The character of Mitch Dermott had uncovered evidence of mob activity and had to prevent himself from being disbarred.
There is Time to Kill where plot takes place in a Mississippi town has to defend a man whose daughter was violently hurt and killed. Samuel Jackson plays the father that sought revenge against the killer of his daughter. Matthew McConaughey plays the lawyer to defend Samuel Jackson. This movie led in the direction I am on now.
My other favorite is A Few Good Men with Tom Cruise as a Navy Lawyer and Jack Nickolson as the Marine Colonel Nathan R. Jessep that gave order that killed a solider on a naval base. The best scene of the movies was the cross examination that was heated. Movies like this do have a profound impact.
The final nail in the coffin as movies is the classic to To Kill A Mocking Bird
I know from my own experience that these movies did affect my wanting to go law school and want to become a lawyer. Most people have seen these movies at one time or another. It is that reason they have such an emotional impact and it changed they the way I saw things. To this day I still enjoy watching them. If you have not see any of them. It is a good idea to see them a least one time and see how much impact it does leave on your pysche. Movies do affect the way we feel and think about the world at large. They influence our career decisions most of the time. If you like the information that has been presented, bookmark this page

Here is a another bit to about going to law school in Australia or the US. It does fit the bill and lightens up the mood in a humorous way.
I enjoy this kind of stuff. It make the experience funny. It makes it bearable. No matter.. Just enjoy. It is a bit of law school humor. I will find stuff like the because the experience to law school in another country should exciting and not boring. The most important is being a law student should be enjoyable.
This another I cam across that fit the funny bone department. Just and relax. Happy Holidays. If you like the information that has been presented, bookmark this page

I was to let the people in the US know that this blog is set up for them. It is not just an Australian blog about Australians going to law school. It is about an American wanting to law school and wanting see a different country.I want to put information and give Americans out there an opportunity to explore other options than the standard advice given to prospective students. It is not being presented. I want this to be an information source for you the read and give you the opportunity to see things from a different prospective. I want to give you another prospective and show that is possible to go a different route to get there and be a licensed attorney in the US. Plus, to be able to be licensed in Australia as well. Think about this if you have a lawyer licensed both the US and Australia, you will get a lawyer who has an international presence. This give that type of person over lawyers just educated only in US school and closing themselves off to a world of opportunity.
This blog is a good information tool and puts out quality information about getting a law degree that is useable in the US and in Australia. Plus, it tells how make and blend into Australian culture with a respect and dignity for it. I want more people to see what this blog can offer them a world of unlimited possibilities. I want people to free their minds and open to beyond a cage where see there is a much larger world. It is time free minds that and unleash the entrepreneur build the community, and inspire people to think outside the box and challenge people reach beyond themselves to do great things. This blog is about following your dreams to build better tomorrows for yourself. I want to present this as a source of inspiration and information. There are multiple ways of doing things that you don't have to accept things as they are.
It is about rising to the challenge when others say that is not possible and coming back wowing them at the end. It is about getting people to see beyond and see the bigger picture. It is about how success comes from failure. It is about personal growth and challenging the words "I can't" to "I can do it"
When other are crying failure and sadness in the media and other places, this blog is about hope and doing something about it. Showing that it can be done. It is time to be a noble lion can roar and not a lamb. It is time strike fear in those who are corrupt. It is time restore the legal profession from a status of failure to one of nobility and honor. For too long, the profession in the US forgot that it was to serve the people and not to unjustly enrich themselves while hurting their clients through dishonest means and methods. Legal education in the US today has produced more Justin Biebers and Kim Kardashians that care not for their client and how to serve them best. Today students entering into law school can't tell you the name of the nine people who sit on the US Supreme Court. Nor can they read the opinions coming the court nor do they read the legislation coming from the house where laws are legislated. The legal profession in the US once held the position of nobility and which was represented the fictional character of Atticus Finch. It was at one the most respected in the world. It has fallen by the waist side only to be concern about one's social rank and what your neighbor has rather concentrating on their client's cases. I am striving to become a noble lion and one that can't be bought nor corrupted. I believe it is time to restore the legal profession of a profession that is noble once again.
It is time be a people of honor and courage. It is time to be noble and upright. It is time to dream not be told that there is only one way in the face of adversity. It is time to set goals and dream big. This world is filled with opportunity. No man can stop an idea whose time has come.

Writing a good personal statement is key to gaining admission to your law school of choice no matter where you are applying to. I have found 13 examples of personal statements that you can use the format on what a good personal statement is suppose to look like and how it should look. The most important when you write a personal statement being honest with yourself as why do you want to go to law school. You are going to invest time and money into this because it is a huge investment of your energy and focus. Most of all, you want to tell the admission committee makes you a good candidate above the other candidates that vying the seat at law school.
Your first statement is your thesis or your main idea. It should flow through your personal statement. The personal statement tells about you and has a form. It has structure that has to be consistent all the way through. It has to flow. You should read and correct it as many times as you need to. But, make sure that it is you in the essay and don't copy what someone has done. Nowadays, there is plenty of temptation to copy and cheat. I have seen plenty of people copy of other people's personal statements and the admissions committee saw the same personal and copied someone else experience and said that is theirs. This happen to me. I lent my very personal statement for someone to look at and they copied it word for word when I applied to. I applied to school at Baylor University School of Law. I was furious it was my blood, sweat and tears from my personal life went into the essay that I wrote. I discovered that this person had applied to the same schools practically I had. If you don't think the admission committee keeps records of who wrote what personal statements they do and they do keep it database and match it up to see if it is exactly your or someone that you plagiarized someone's else personal statement. The reason why they do this now is because they are too many dishonest people that think by cheating they can get ahead.
These essays I am putting as freebies are for your own use. I did not write the essays below. But, they were by real law student that were accepted to law school. Also, I felt they are good to gain entrance into a good law school. Also, I will put three paragraphs of my own personal statement so you can see how I open and close the personal statement. I think it is important that you are able to download all thirteen of them. Also, I am going to recommend a book to help. If you need more help with the personal statement. Ann Levine is a licensed lawyer, who helps students with their personal statements.I will put her information out there to you,so you can have it.
Here is background information on her and credentials:

Intro To Writing Personal Statements for Law School
What not write in Your Personal Statement to Law School
Here are first 2 paragraphs of my personal and the closing paragraph:
Also, I am not giving the whole thing because of past incident to Baylor. I have been burnt on it because my ex-friend plagiarized my work. I still feel bad to this day for ever allowing it be seen in full. The first two paragraphs of My Personal Statement:
First Paragraph
"Unfair". There are many
things are unfair.Battling the unfair,
it has been part of my whole life experience. I had four experiences that fit the
description of “unfair”. When most people would become bitter or spiteful or
wanted revenged, I decided to over time I would use a skill overcoming things
that were “unfair” in my personal life. Most of all, I will gain the tools and
experience to learn to the fight “unfair” at law school.
You notice that I use in quotes one word that is the key word that will transition to allow the essay to flow for the rest of the paragraphs of my personal statement.
Second Paragraph
My very first experience of being
treated “unfair” started I was 21. I had a horrific car accident where I
smashed into the windshield of a car while riding on a bicycle delivering
office supplies during the daytime. I had the right away and was a victim of a
hit and run accident. I landed in ditch and could have been dead on arrival at
the hospital. I was in terrible pain and had to have surgery to remove a blood
clot on the right side of my brain. I woke up three days later to find that had
my head had been shaved and a left fibula fracture. I was crying
uncontrollably. I remember feeling angry and thought it was so unfair to
undergo months of physical therapy and speech therapy. I strove under the pressure
to rise to the challenge of handling things that were unfair during the course of
my life. Most of all, there are many things are unfair especially when the odds
seem so insurmountable, and it is the core foundation of my being to overcome
things that are unfair.
Also, you notice that I use the word unfair to transition the concept of "unfair". This done to highlight and experience in my own how I fought the unfair situation and works well through out the rest of my personal statement.
My Closing Paragraph
All of my experience has led me to
want to pursue a career in law.I enjoy
the challenge and always left me curious about the law. It is my passion most
of all. I have learned and mastered these characteristics of persistence,
diligence, working smarter, negotiation, thinking critically, being able to
write well and speak well. These are the characteristics that I believe that
are key to success in the field of law. If I am given a chance, I will work
smarter to hone my skills even further in law school in pursue of excellence. Finally,
It is for this reason that I wish to pursue this endeavor above all else.
At the end of my closing paragraph is where I tie the whole essay together and state why I feel I am a good candidate for the law school environment. This is the nuts and bolts of it. As you can see how parts of it flow. This is what makes a good personal statement. This information is something that needs to be shown because in Australia there is just not enough information that I found. I decided make it available for everyone. The personal statements are free. You download them and use them to help you write your personal statement.

There many different ways to brief cases for law school. This example I am using to show how the format is suppose to look. Now, I have format that can be used. It basically has no writing except for the headings and you just fill the relevant information for your briefing at law school.
Here is an excellent how to brief in the American format and in Canada. Now, it can be modified to fit the Australian format. Your law school in Australia, they may have you brief a different way. It is a good idea to check with your professor or TA if they will accept the format for briefing at your law school courses in Australia.
Example of North American Format of Briefing:
United States v. Carroll Towing (2nd Cir. 1947)–Learned Hand opinion
Facts:NYC harbor, wartime (1944). The Anna C. -a barge owned by the Conners Marine Company was moored at a pier with several other barges.A tugboat (chartered by Grace Line and owned by Carroll Towing) was sent to move one of the other barges. In the process, the Anna C. broke away from the pier and was set adrift. It collided with a tanker (whose propeller tore open her side) and started leaking. Because no one was aboard to notice the leak, the Anna C. eventually sunk, along with her cargo of flour.(The bargee had been absent for 21 hours, from 5pm the prior day until the accident at 2pm, and the Court thought his excuse for being away was fabricated.)
Procedural History: On appeal in the 2nd Circuit –no real detail included.
Issue:Who’s liable for the loss?(negligence analysis)
Holding:The barge owner (Connors Marine Company) should have had a bargee aboard during the daylight working hours to keep an eye on things, unless there was some legitimate excuse for this absence. Therefore, they’re liable for the loss.
Reasoning: Hand first states that there’s “no general rule” for when the barge owner will be liable for injuries to other vessels if a barge breaks away from the mooring without a bargee/attendant on hand. He says you can’t make a general rule, but lays out three factors to analyze to figure out if the barge owner was negligent:
• The probability of the event (P)
• The gravity of the resulting injury (L)
• The burden of taking adequate precautions (B)
These factors will vary depending on the time, place, and exact situation.
I am providing a two links for the briefs, and they are both free of charge. You will be able to download them and look them and see how to get them to fit the Australian legal briefing format. Now, Australia briefing can have multiple issues just include the other issues under the the section of the brief with issues. Now, Australian law schools use rules to highlight elements if they use an element as a heading then so do. Put the case rule and citation under the element and the matching fact for the rule. I have a link for the briefing format for Australia.
Here are the link for you to download the brief above that used in the US and Canada.
Now for the Australia format, You will fill in the information and put where it goes. Australian Briefing Format:
Good website for law related briefing is Law Nerds: LawNerds
This is good information for now about briefing cases. The most important before briefing a case is to read the case meaning the entire case to be able summarize it. Australia briefing can have multiple issues just like in real case in court. Be aware of it.

Well, it time to start to include the most important part of this blog. I will start putting case brief template that can be used for law school. It is one of the ways this blog can put out the help. Because I am going prep for law school and exams. Because a law student not prepared is one that will pay for it later on in one's legal career.
The key to this kind of preparation to keep everyone going law school and get a feel for the law school environment. Also, I want help my fellow law students out there. Especially out in Australia. Because there is very little material to teach out brief a case and to do it well can come in handy at exam time. Also, I am getting in the habit of doing it now,so that I won't forget how to do it. The good news as far briefing is concern is that I am using John Delaney's how do legal Analysis. It shows how to brief. With regard to cases in Australia, you can multiple issues related to a case and to break up the elements with case rules for each element followed by matching set of fact fo the case rule and element that it goes under. Here is the books that I am highly recommending as one law student to another law student.
Learning Legal Reasoning: Briefing, Analysis and Theory By John Delaney
I know want to think like a lawyer and hit the ground running. This one of the many weapons that I will be using at law school.I am trying to is get a good handle being a good law student. I am hoping to be an even better lawyer when I do graduate.
I am always open to do the Australian version of Planet Law School. I think for the lack material not readily available and that can be free can help many people versus charging people sums of money and never give good information how to do an Australian law school exam and what is the format of it. Because there is very little material on it. It is like a big mystery. I am hoping to get some information out about the Australian law school exam format. Because every law school in every country has their exam answer format that is accepted for that particular country.
I want to get as much input from people who can point me in the right direction. I want help people entering into law school in Australia to prepare and to be able to hit the ground running. this my purpose. My end goal is to be a good lawyer and be able hand really tough cases. This why I am up for the challenge. I am going to use the Dragon Speak Legal Edition to help me brief my cases. I am recommend using it highly.
Dragon Natural Speaking Legal Edition
This is the way to approach to the law school environment. I am treating it as a business. Because working as a lawyer is having to think like a business owner. This mindset is one that I am very familiar with. I am going put somethings together,so that you who are going to be law students or already law students have the information. It is my way getting the information out for free. It will be free.Because who is better at understanding other law student than a person who is a law student. Paying it forward is one of the things that I can offer to other law students. I will try to get more info on the exam format so that you will know how to prepare for it and how to create and outline that is usable for the law school environment.Don't be afraid to contact me if you have information that I do not have. After all, I want this blog to be resource of information for law students. Just hit the contact button if you have any comments or questions because they are always welcomed. I will try to get to as many as I can.
