I have run accross this for those already living overseas including Australia. I found an attorney that handles filing US taxes returns and is licensed CPA if a person goes out the country to live overseas. He specilizes in helping people do their returns and knows his stuff. Now, asking yourself this question well, what has got to do with me? Good question. If you are living overseas and haven't filed a tax return in years and it time settle up because the IRS is cracking in July 1,2014. Many people are Americans and have US passports are dealing with the huge headaches associated with filing the income tax . The good news that you do not have to fly to file your 1040. With the US government cracking and trying to get other to agree to impose US law on people living overseas with FATCA.
Now more than ever, it is important people know what their rights are while living in overseas. I can't stress this enough because I will be using his services to help with tax preparation. Because I am trying accomplish a lot. The person who handle the tax preparation is Don D. Nelson, Attorney, CPA. Here is exactly the information from his website:
Don D. Nelson is an Attorney at Law and Certified Public Accountant with over 35 years experience in U.S. expatriate, international and nonresident taxation. He can offer you "attorney client privilege" to protect your sensitive and confidential information. Accountants, CPAs and enrolled agents cannot provide you with that important legal protection. He is a partner in Kauffman Nelson LLP, Certified Public Accountants which practices exclusively in International and Expatriate Taxation. He has assisted over 1,000 clients with their US expatriate and International tax matters and prepared many thousands of expatriate and international tax returns.
His tax services include tax planning, return preparation, offshore tax form preparation and representing clients before the Internal Revenue Service and State tax agencies.
He has helped hundreds of clients file past due expatriate Federal returns Due to the foreign earned income exclusion (IRC Section 911) and foreign tax credits when these returns are prepared often there is little or no tax due regardless of the late filings.
